I am your Mam's 1st cousin. youngest daughter of Jim's sister Mary. Mary married Sean O Connor and they had four children - Sean SJ, Máirin, Dáirine and Gráinne. Of the four of us Galway O"Connors I am, sadly, the only survivor.
At a resent family 1st Communion I was chatting to my niece, Catriona Morrish, and she told me of the amazing find she had found in YOU!!! Catriona forwarded to me your correspondence with her and all the links! This is wonderful and very exciting!
I have been trying to ring your Mam all day without results! I did not have her address or telephone number and - I must be honest here - I never could remember her married name! To me she was always Eithne Harpur!
Would you email me Pete? I need to discuss with you a letter I found in my mother's book of memories. It is a letter from Jim to Granny Harpur. I need to give it to Eithne as it really should be with her and your family. Hope to hear from you. Beannacht Dé

My name is Gráinne Máire Ní Concubhair. His son, Dermot Harpur, served in the Irish Army and died in service, while reviewing the troops in Dublin.
I recognised quite a number of names from listening to stories in my youth.
I'm pleased to say Deirdre, above, is my sister.

Fascinating account and really brings my uncles early life into sharp relief. He was a perfect gentleman and it's lovely to see his photograph after all these years.

Jim Harpur was my uncle by marriage – his wife May was my mother’s oldest sister. There are a lot of Wiki entries that could be fleshed out with the information here.

A fascinating historical document Pete including information about the Igoe gang — quite rare I believe. Do you have a photo of your grandfathers headstone? Or where is he buried and I would photo it myself?
