I am the eldest of Nelius Connolly grand children and I remember you coming in the summer to Lissanuhig Skibbereen Co Cork with your brother Paul and sister Emer and your mom and dad. I was delighted to find your blog my sister Jane and myself were talking about your family a couple of months ago when we were trying to get information on the family tree. hi, My grandfather was called Patrick Connolly, he came from Scotland, I believe Dundee. As a girl I was told the family left Ireland after the execution of one of their members, I believe my grandfathers uncle. I thought it was all just another family myth but I recently found out that my father nearly never got his commission in the army when my mother was security checked prior to his appointment. I would like to find the truth.

Hi all, Just an observation on the ASU list on Jim Harpurs certificate. There are two names on that list, Rodney Murphy and Leo Murray, that were shot in bed at Stillorgan in 1922, by a squad of Free State Army officers from Portobello barracks, led by Col. Niall MacNeill, son of Eoin McNeill. MacNeill had also been these men’s brigade adjutant in the S. Dublin Brigade up to the Treaty of 1921. This is evidence from the coroners court from that time. Hi Pete,

Your relation Jim Harpur was a comrade of my granddads in the Dublin HQ ASU. I have a photo of fifty old colleagues getting their certificates. I would love to identify all of the people in the photos. Can you drop me a mail and I will send you a scan of the photo? I can see Jim there alright, but would need to have it confirmed.
