Striding around central London on the way to a meeting. Laptop in backpack, ready to meet the most demanding of customers. People may scoff, but I’d have the last laugh since I’d be warm all over. Naturally, you need to have the figure for this, but I think I could get away with it.
What’s up is an excellent news aggregator that shows you the headlines as the occur around the world superimposed onto a world map. A bit slow, since it’s being Digged, but fascinating to follow. (Especially when you’re in the middle of installating Oracle 10g on a low end server)
I was intending to write a roundup of what’s being going on recently, but got distracted by this little toy…GalCrash, a simulator of what happens when galaxys collide. Its a lovely piece of code that gets you into a trance for a good half hour.
It’s probably for the best. This weekend hasn’t been a good one in terms of Luke’s eating, in that he took a good few steps backwards - back to the most annoying phase. The whole ‘hold your last spoonful in your mouth until you get sick half an hour later’ thing is a big weapon in the food phobic toddlers arsenal, and Luke has been wielding it aplenty this weekend. We’ve tried talking calmly to him, but the calm is normally disturbed by Mark’s incessant crying. Most people don’t believe that a little baby so small and oh so cute could be so bloody noisy, but once they hear him in full, 120db flight the idea of giving advice to us goes out the window. Trying to have a chat with Luke about the importance of food to the human body while Mark is crying loudly in the background is like doing calculus while getting kicked in the head, I’m sad to say there were several swearwords used this weekend.
This Tuesday, I’ve got both boys all day long while Jude and some friends go to an exhibiton at the NEC. I’m sure it’ll be a fun day, but I’m already a bit depressed about it. I don’t know if I can get through a full 9:00am-5:00pm with the two lads. If either of them is poorly, I can see myself ending up crying on the floor when Jude comes back.

Their needs are served by the aptly named cute overload blog, where I stole this picture for Luke. I’m trying to show him that others have problems with chewing as well, and it seems to go down well with him. Do the clicky thing to see the little fellah in his full nutlump glory.
Isn’t it about time that Microsoft just did the deed and rewrote Windows from the ground up? They’ve been bashed many, many times by various malware writers and it’s getting to the stage that its not very funny any more, even to a Linux zealot like me.
It seems that Microsoft’s next version of Windows, Vista, needs a patch already. Good to see them shipping it, but for an OS that is months away from shipping, the supposed latest and greatest in PC goodness, it’s pretty crappy to have a security hole exposed based on 6+ year old code. It’s even crappier to have a product manager explaining that the code originates from 1990 and that it ‘has been ported’. It wasn’t ported, it was left lying around, they’re just tacking new stuff onto the old.
I think it’s called turd-polishing.
