Selfishness is..

..insisting on someone else suffering to make you feel better. Despite the short term ego boost, sometimes it’s better to let those without a voice to have their say. It’s probably the harder choice to make, but how could you live with yourself after insisting that a life in a plastic box for a person in perpetual agony is ‘the best thing’ because your god decrees it is the best way?

Of course, the poor kid can’t speak. In fact she can’t do a damn thing, but she’ll be dragged around the courts while the parents egos are stroked and affirmed.

Update, 16/10/2004 The High Court decided that the girl shouldn’t be revived if and when she stops breating again. I reckon it’s a triumph for common sense, and while I feel desperately sorry for the parents, I have to agree with the court.

The BBC have a dumbed down Q&A about the issue. Doesn’t answer many questions, but they do link to the Pro-Life party for some reason, who have some gruesome pictures for people to get upset about. There’s no discussion about the lives of the women who had the abortion since those kind of details tend to cloud the issue. A picture is worth a thousand words, but sometimes the circumstances those thousand words might reveal would cast a less harsh light on the decision of the woman?

    Update coming? Perhaps?

Sod it, it’s time someone organised a large pub night, isn’t it?

I suppose I should. I’ve been a bit lax in the last few weeks – I could plead business or holidays or whatnot, but the reality is I lose interest in communicating when I get depressed, as I have been for the last few months. It’s a bloke thing :)
