Maudlin entry…

The youngest boy to enlist in the British army was John Condon from Waterford, Ireland. He was 12 years old. In 1915 John Condon went with the Royal Irish Regiment to Flanders. He died during a German gas-attack near Ypres. His gravestone, nr. 6322 at the Poelkapelle British Cemetery in Belgium, mentions his age as 14, but that is incorrect. When he died, on 24th May 1915, he was still 13 years old. His birthday was in June.

Update: There’s a short article here with more info on his short life. Good to see the Peace School being renamed in his memory.

When Luke is old enough to want to/be able to get dragged around the neighbourhood, I’d like to think he’ll be dressed in one of these….

Jan got some great news. I’d add ‘thank fuck’ but I’m up to the max on my swearing credit.

Thank the good lord.

Back at work, we’ve been told that we have to apply for our own jobs. And there may not be as many positions as people applying, but don’t worry too much! ‘Nice holiday Pete?’

This is so cool. I downloaded the entire thing (250Mb or so) plus the UK satellite data (another 147Mbish) but it’s worth it, if you’re into that sort of thing.

As I am.

Book lack in Ongar

was the Private Eye headline on the week on a library strike in Essex. One of the best headlines I’ve ever read.

Meanwhile in the present, Pete is considering talking to this guy - Just to get a few things off my chest. It’s crap being a bloke sometimes, the only thing you can do is display and try harder. Sometimes I wish men weren’t so lazy about emotions.
